Training organisationstop
There is an enormous selection of massage courses ranging in style and content to accommodate both those who want to learn some basic skills and others who would like to make it their career. Training listed here is aimed at the professional, although some of the schools listed may offer 'introductory courses' suitable for those wanting to try out massage before taking the plunge into the professional study of massage.

Professional Member Associations

The Massage Training Institute is a national examining body and a professional association specialising in holistic massage. Limited website, but has a practitioners directory. MTI is a member of the British Massage Therapy Council (BMTC), the General Council for Massage Therapy (GCMT) and is also affiliated to the British Complementary Medicine Association (BCMA).

This is the British Massage Therapy Council site and is ok for checking out massage schools. They intend to put research on their site in the future, so will be worth keeping an eye on.

The site of the American Massage Therapy Association. It contains full articles on massage, searchable database (bit limited at the moment), journal, news and downloadable photos.

Publications

The site of the Massage Magazine. Has well presented, short articles on massage and related topics. It lists schools, courses and associations in US and Canada. Also has a massage shop.

This site provides a short guide to many different types of massage (I can't think of one they've left out!).  This information seems to be aimed at those looking for a massage treatment, and is linked to its Directory of Therapists (USA only).

Biographytop
Frances Fewell qualified in remedial massage, reflexology, clinical and medical aromatherapy and was awarded a degree in education and complementary medicine.  In 2003 she completed a Masters post-graduate certificate in Health and the Arts.

Frances ran a clinic/private training school in 1984, but is now an academic lead in complementary medicine for Anglia Polytechnic University. The university is also research active within the field of aromatherapy, massage and reflexology.

Frances also act as an external examiner for various professional and academic bodies, including the Institute for Complementary Medicine and British Register of complementary Practitioners.  She is also a trustee of the British General Council of Complementary Medicine.

Frances is currently undertaking a Professional Docterate and am publishing research papers, travelling abroad to present a paper or to examine or teach.  She has appeared with local media discussing the benefit of complementarty medicine and is currently producing a research-based book on aromatherapy.  Frances is passionate about the benefits of aromatherapy and currently uses it extensively on oncology patients referred from local health care professionals.
