Injury Prevention Massage (IPM) offer standard and bespoke advanced massage training workshops adapted from Tai Chi, Lomi Lomi, yoga, and Western massage disciplines. This DVD shows all the techniques they teach in their level 1 training workshops. It's an excellent introduction to 'no-hands' massage offering a range of strokes for most of the body. The strokes are predominantly dealing with groups of muscles and larger areas of the body rather than specific muscles. For the sports/remedial massage therapist using the forearm will be familiar, but for those taught more general massage techniques, it offers a way of protecting the hands, back and neck from overstrain injuries.
The demonstration of proper posture was excellent, and useful for all therapists. Throughout the DVD the trainers emphasised body awareness and posture to protect the body from injury. I found it easy to watch the DVD while practising the strokes. The instruction is clear and nearly all of the strokes very easy to learn.
I particularly liked the exercises for practitioners to use before and after massaging and even between clients. Again this reinforces IPM's philosophy about ensuring the practitioner remains safe.
To summarise, this DVD is a professionally presented demonstration of proper posture whilst massaging and introductory 'no-hands' techniques which can easily be incorporated into a practitioner's existing repertoire. DVD's like this should be standard for all massage courses.
